Dale Earnhardt Jr. notched a fourth-place finish in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This marks Earnhardt Jr.’s 12th top-10 finish in 15 appearances in the non-points event.

Earnhardt Jr. recorded finishes of eighth, eighth, seventh and eighth in the opening four segments. The average of Earnhardt Jr.’s finishes ranked fourth among the race’s 22 drivers giving the No. 88 National Guard team a prime position entering the pits for a mandatory pit stop before the final 10-lap dash for the victory. In the race off pit road, Earnhardt Jr. ended up sixth.

At the drop of the green flag for the final segment, Earnhardt Jr. grabbed fifth and eventually chased down Carl Edwards for fourth. The short 10-lap sprint did not allow time for the No. 88 to advance any further, giving Earnhardt Jr. a fourth-place result.

Jamie McMurray scored his first victory in NASCAR’s All-Star event followed by Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Earnhardt Jr. and Edwards.

The series returns to the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway for the season’s longest event, the 600-mile Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, May 25.

“I fought tight all night, the same thing we fought last week (at Kansas). They made the car a little bit better there at the end, but it was still driving through the right-front tire all the way around the corner. We’ll think about it and look at everything we need to look at to try to get better for the 600. I’m happy for Jamie (McMurray). That’s a pretty cool deal for him. They’ve been needing something like that the last several years.

“We need to work a little bit and get a little better and the guys will do it. I’m confident when we come back here next week, we’ll be good.”
