LAS VEGAS – Dale Earnhardt Jr. was named NASCAR’s 2013 Most Popular Driver today at the Myers Bros. Awards Luncheon at Wynn Las Vegas. It marks the 11th consecutive year Earnhardt Jr. has received the award, which is determined by fans through a voting system on MostPopularDriver.com.
“I want to thank NASCAR for carrying on the tradition of the Most Popular Driver Award,” Earnhardt Jr. said . “It’s a great honor. It humbles me to know I have so many loyal fans in my corner each week. There are a lot of motivating factors that drive our race team to be the best we can, but none impacts us more than the support our fans have shown over the years.”
By winning Most Popular Driver this year, Earnhardt Jr. now holds the longest consecutive streak in the award’s history (11 in a row, 2003-2013). He was previously tied with Bill Elliott, who still holds the most overall MPD awards at 16. Earnhardt Jr.’s 11 is second all-time.
“I know I have fans that vote every single day,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “They pour their heart and soul into this award, and I thank them. I’m also happy for them, because I know they wear this 11-in-a-row streak with pride. I do, too.”
