Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start 32nd Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway. Earnhardt Jr.’s No. 88 National Guard Chevrolet SS posted a qualifying time of 15.235 seconds (125.947 mph).
Kyle Busch blistered the .533-mile oval with a new track-record time of 14.813 seconds (129.535 mph). Earnhardt Jr.’s teammate Kasey Kahne posted the second-fastest time, followed by Denny Hamlin, Brian Vickers and Jamie McMurray in the top five.
“I like Bristol,” Earnhardt Jr. told reporters Friday morning. “It’s an exciting race track and it’s a lot of fun for the drivers. You’re always in the middle of something every lap. It keeps you on your toes and it’s a pretty tough race track. I enjoy the challenge and look forward to hopefully having a good weekend.”
Drivers and teams will be on track Saturday for practice sessions at 9 a.m. ET and 12 p.m. ET. Both sessions will be broadcast live on Speed.
Coverage of the Food City 500 begins Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
