Only two months have passed since the checkered flag waved on the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season at Homestead-Miami Speedway and teams are preparing to return to the track this week. Thursday, Friday and Saturday mark the first time Dale Earnhardt Jr., crew chief Steve Letarte and the No. 88 team will work together in 2013 when they hit the track for three days of testing at Daytona International Speedway.
The test marks Earnhardt Jr.’s second experience behind the wheel of the 2013 Chevrolet SS race car following a two-day test at Charlotte Motor Speedway in December. Teams will be preparing for the Daytona Speedweeks events, including the Sprint Unlimited, Budweiser Duels and Daytona 500, at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. Unlike the December test at Charlotte, which only hosted 16 teams, the majority of the Sprint Cup Series garage is expected to be present.
Teams are scheduled to test 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day. SPEED.com will offer a live broadcast online of the 9 a.m. to noon session each day with SPEED televising the afternoon sessions from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. all three days.
Dale Jr. is scheduled to make an appearance at NASCAR Preseason Thunder Fan Fest Thursday evening in the Sprint Fan Zone from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. He will sign autographs for 200 fans who purchased a ticket through the Speedway’s Ticket Office and have an on-stage question-and-answer session.
