Earnhardt Qualifies 16th at Homestead

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will roll off 16th for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season finale Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Earnhardt, driving a preview paint scheme of his 2013 National Guard/Diet Mountain Dew Chevrolet, recorded a lap of 173.472 mph (31.13 sec.) in Friday night’s qualifying session. Joey Logano nabbed the pole in his No. 20 Toyota with a lap of 176.056 mph (30.67 sec.).

Marcos Ambrose joins Logano followed by series’ points leader Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards and Aric Almirola in the top five. Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson make up the top 10.

Two practice sessions are scheduled for Saturday at the 1.5-mile oval located just outside Miami, Florida. Final practice will be televised at 3 p.m. ET on Speed.
