Sporting an all-black No. 88 Diet Mountain Dew/National Guard Chevrolet in conjunction with the upcoming Dark Knight Rises movie, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start 17th in Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Earnhardt Jr. posted a lap of 200.317 mph (35.943 sec.) around the newly-repaved 2-mile oval. Marcos Ambrose won the Coors Light Pole award with a new track record lap of 203.241 mph (35.426 sec.). Ryan Newman set the previous track record of 194.232 mph (37.069 sec.) in 2005.

Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne and Newman join Ambrose in the top five. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader Matt Kenseth starts sixth, followed by Trevor Bayne, Tony Stewart, Joey Logano and Jimmie Johnson completing the top ten.

Following two days of on-track activity in Michigan, concerns arose due to blistering of the left-side tires. Officials from NASCAR and Goodyear elected to change to a more conservative left-side tire for Sunday’s race. Teams will receive additional practice time Saturday at 6 p.m. ET to test the new tire.

Coverage of Sunday’s race is set to begin at 12 p.m. ET on TNT.
