MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 20, 2017) – Last year, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Whisky River location inside Charlotte-Douglas International Airport was named Best Airport Bar in America by Airport Restaurant News Magazine & USA Today 10best.com. This year, Whisky River has been nominated for three such awards by the same organization.

The online voting is under way for the contest, and the winner will be named later this spring at the annual ARN convention. Whisky River, which will celebrate its second year in the CLT airport concourse on March 14, is nominated again for Best Airport Bar in America and has added nods in the Best Airport Sit-Down Dining Establishment and Best Airport Bar/Restaurant Atmosphere categories for 2017.

Based on the original Whisky River location in uptown Charlotte’s EpiCentre, the Charlotte airport eatery features its signature rustic décor from the flagship location, a model bull and stage for live performances. Its popular menu includes favorites like the Carolina Q Burger and chipotle queso. Cocktails made with Midnight Moon Original Moonshine (from legendary racer and whiskey maven Junior Johnson) also are featured.

“We can’t say enough good things about the Whisky River in the airport,” said J.R. Rhodes, director of entertainment for Whisky River. “It’s a great atmosphere with live music, really good food and some serious southern hospitality. When travelers from across the country come through Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, it’s our chance to show them something good about the city of Charlotte and the state of North Carolina, and we take a lot of pride in that.”

Whisky River’s Charlotte airport location drew massive attention from JR Nation, Earnhardt Jr.’s legion of fans. The online voting process saw the new eatery swamp the competition in the run-up to the award.
