MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 13, 2016) – Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the guest picker this past weekend on the long-running Saturday college football pre-game show, ESPN College GameDay, which aired live from Bristol Motor Speedway. The 13-time NASCAR Most Popular Driver is no stranger to Thunder Valley, having won four times on the .533-mile oval that was turned into the world’s largest college-football venue for the game between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

How did he do? Not bad at all, to be honest.

Earnhardt Jr., the first NASCAR driver to be a guest picker on GameDay, picked 11 games and won five of them. Among the winners Earnhardt Jr. picked:

• Pittsburgh (42-39 over Penn State)
• North Carolina (48-23 over Illinois)
• San Diego State (a wild 45-40 victory over Cal)
• Boise State (31-28 over Washington State)
• Iowa (a 42-3 pasting of Iowa State.)

The games he missed included:

• TCU’s shocking upset by Arkansas, 41-38 in double overtime
•  South Carolina’s 27-14 loss to Mississippi State
• BYU’s narrow loss to rival Utah, 20-19 in the annual Holy War
• Texas Tech’s high-scoring 68-55 loss to Arizona State
• Virginia Tech’s 45-24 loss to Tennessee in the inaugural Battle at Bristol, which set a world record for attendance at better than 156,000 fans.

Earnhardt Jr.’s beloved Washington Redskins also fell 38-16 to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night in the NFL.

As for the experience, Earnhardt Jr. was pumped to be asked to appear on the set of College GameDay.
