Track: Chicagoland Speedway
Car No: 8
Organization: Dale Earnhardt Inc.
After equaling his season-best finish of third the weekend before at Daytona, Dale Jr. followed suit at Chicagoland Speedway with his first victory of 2005. The race was dominated by Matt Kenseth, but Junior benefited from a gutsy two-tire pit stop with 19 laps to go that catapulted him into second place. He passed Scott Wimmer eight laps later to take his first and only lead of the race. An antsy Brian Vickers and a hard-charging Kenseth threatened Junior's victory, but the Bud driver held on for the win. The triumph continued a string of six consecutive seasons with at least one victory, and Chicagoland Speedway became the ninth venue in which Dale Jr. had visited Victory Lane.
