Gatorade 125

Track: Daytona International Speedway
Date: 2/12/2004
Car No: 8
Sponsor: Budweiser
Organization: Dale Earnhardt Inc.

Dale Jr. earned a win in the Daytona 500 qualifying race for the second consecutive year, this time passing DEI teammate Michael Waltrip with 15 laps to go and holding off Tony Stewart, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Burton and others for the victory. The race was plagued by only one caution (lap 23 of 50), and Junior's Budweiser crew made good use of it with a 14.16-second pit stop. The No. 8 Chevrolet remained perched behind the leader, Waltrip, for nine laps before diving to the inside in turn one and taking away the point on lap 37. Dale Jr. stretched his lead to four car lengths in the closing laps to preserve the victory and the third-place starting position in the upcoming Daytona 500.
