Dale Jr. tied the late Davey Allison's record of quickest multi-winner in NASCAR Winston Cup history by scoring his second victory in only his 16th career start. Junior claimed the checkered flag after starting fifth and leading 31 laps. On the final restart of the race, Junior passed his dad in the No. 3 Chevrolet to take the lead on lap 369, and he held off a hard-charging Terry Labonte in the final laps. With the victory Junior became the first repeat winner of the 2000 Winston Cup season. It also set the scene for a famous victory lane moment, in which Dale Earnhardt Sr. hurriedly met his son, gave him a hug, and told him, "I love you, but I'm leaving so find your own ride home."
