Having won two NASCAR Nationwide Series championships as a driver in 1998 and 1999, Dale Jr. collected two more as an owner in 2004 and 2005. The opportunity came with Chance 2, a team Junior started in 2003 that would compete in sporadic Nationwide Series races with various drivers. Chance 2 was a co-ownership deal for Dale Jr. with Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Teresa Earnhardt. Martin Truex Jr. was tabbed to take over the ride full time in 2004, and he responded by winning six races en route to a Nationwide Series championship. He won six more races in '05 to mirror his mentor's '98 and '99 seasons with consecutive Nationwide Series titles.
