In only his 12th career Cup start, Dale Jr. found victory lane at Texas Motor Speedway by leading 108 of 334 laps in his No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet Monte Carlo and crossing the finish line 5.9 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Jeff Burton. Starting fourth, the car was near the front all afternoon and required no adjustments during the race. Said Junior after the race, "On the last lap, I was so excited, and I could see the fans getting excited. I couldn't believe it – people screaming and cheering. I couldn't believe it!" Junior's victory marked the first Winston Cup win for Dale Earnhardt Inc., and it marked the first time father and son had won Winston Cup races in the same season since Bobby and Davey Allison in 1988.
